From crafting journeys to crafting messages

Hi, Kammy Thurman here.

Although I’ve been creating marketing and sales materials for nearly 25 years now, my career didn’t actually start in copywriting.

I was a travel agent for over a decade, planning trips for business travelers, conference-goers, and vacationers.

When I married and moved to a small town in Montana that didn’t have a travel agency, I realized it was time for a change.

Don’t get me wrong, I love traveling. And over the years, I got really good at selling travel face-to-face. In fact, I became the top salesperson in 3 different agencies.

But deep down, I’m a writer. Newspapers all over Montana published my first article when I was 16, and I attended college for a creative writing degree.

I knew once I stopped working as a travel agent, I wanted to go back to writing. And it went okay—I sold a lot of articles.

Then one day I found Bob Bly’s Handbook for Freelance Writers in my local library and it was love at first read.

I was hooked!

As I waded into copywriting, I realized that behind every buying decision, every click, every booking, there’s a message that speaks to someone.

I just needed to transition what I’d been doing for years in person to the page.

I’d found a way to combine my passions and skills—travel, sales, and writing—into a career that I love!

The power of words

You can tweak a thousand things on your website and in your sales collateral—layout, colors, graphics, buttons. And maybe some of those tweaks will even get decent results.

But your message is what really moves the needle in sales.

In fact, it’s so important, that CXL Institute says, “Messaging accounts for a staggering 80% of your conversion rate.”

And that’s where I come in.

I blend the advanced capabilities of AI research with emotional intelligence to craft sales messages that resonate with your audience and get them to act.

Decades of experience

With 25 years of digital marketing consulting and skills in direct response, UX, SEO, CRO, sales enablement copywriting and optimization, and now generative AI… I’m not just another travel writer.

I’m a strategist, researcher and salesperson all rolled into one. Someone who can help tackle your messaging challenges head-on.

Proven results

My strategies have:

  • ignited record event attendance and slashed marketing costs while boosting engagement.
  • They’ve generated up to 85% open rates with 75% response on reactivation emails.
  • They’ve increased conversions with home page makeover so much that the marketing director called it HOT!

But enough about me. What about you?

Are you ready to focus on making your budget work smarter, not harder?

Do you take a long view where business growth is concerned, realizing that sustainable growth doesn’t happen “over night” and there are no magic bullets?

Just solid, proven strategies.

Are you interested in getting more than a sale—your goal is long-term customer relationships, a sustainable business, and robust profits?

Then I say, let’s get to work. Together.

With a laser focus on strategic messaging and optimization of your buyer-facing sales collateral and internal sales assets for your sales team, I can help you turn your challenges into opportunities and prospects into loyal customers.

Sound good?

Behind the scenes. . .

I live with my husband in Montana’s stunning Bitterroot Valley. My oldest son is an archeologist in Wyoming, who builds handmade longbows and arrows on the side. My middle son owns a paint, repair and custom manufacturing shop for HO scale brass model trains collectors. And my youngest son, currently attending college and serving in the Army National Guard, has his eye on e-commerce entrepreneurship once he graduates.

I still love to travel and still get jazzed whenever I enter an airport. I also love sipping coffee on my back deck during crisp Montana mornings… taking off on a weekend road trip with my hubby to no particular destination… and October days popping with color at Sebasco Harbor Resort in Maine.

I also volunteer at a large animal rescue that’s home to 50 horses, a dozen donkeys, a roost of chickens, a handful of goats, a couple of grumpy-old-men potbellied pigs, and a gigantic boar, named Hodor.
